Pot limit Texas Hold 'Em is a great and challenging form of poker that combines the ability to make decisions on multiple streets with multiple players that is common in fixed limit hold'em games with the excitement and aggression of no limit Texas hold'em games. Each type of poker and each betting structure brings with it different variations in strategy. One thing that it will be crucial to know in pot limit hold'em is how to handle the flop.
In no limit Holdem, there will be situations where it is correct to slow play when you flop a big hand, checking or making a small bet to disguise the strength of your hand. In pot limit, it is correct much less often. Just as in no limit, you do not want to let opponents take off a cheap card that can beat you. Unlike in no limit, if you check an extremely strong hand and it is checked around, you cannot make up the difference with a strong bet on the turn, since you can only bet the size of the pot. For this reason it is good to start building a pot right away on the flop when you flop strong.
If you are in position and someone else bets into you on the flop when you flop a monster, it is okay to simply call and let them bet again. Part of what you are trying to do in pot limit hold'em is flop disguised monster hands so you can win a big pot against big card and big pair poker hands. Since you are calling a good sized flop bet and may have already called a good sized pre-flop bet, the pot will be quite large by the turn, especially if your opponent bets again, so building a pot is no longer an issue.
Additionally, if you flop a hand that you think may be good but are not sure, it is often correct to check along. If you flop second pair or top pair bad kicker in a no limit game, you may often want to put in a good sized bet to define your hand. In pot limit, if you keep the pot small, it is easier to make a value bet later without worrying about being put to a decision for all your chips. Controlling the pot in a pot limit game is a key factor, even more so than in no limit games, as the size of the pot dictates the size of the bets.
